Welcome back Year 4! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and enjoyed time with your friends and family. Thank you all so much for the lovely gifts and cards I received on the last day of term, I am very grateful to you all!

It has been wonderful to be back with Glyme class and we have had an excellent first week of term. This week and particularly today the children’s writing has been outstanding with most of them ‘deepening the moment’ and using many of our ‘fantastics’ features in their writing. We have been writing descriptions of the cave in Aladdin and everyone has been so excited to share their sentences in the lessons and I always look forward to reading them after school. If they are excited for me to read them I know they will make me proud.

Talking of being proud – I was proud of everyone for their efforts and achievements in swimming this week. It was our first lesson and it was a joy to see everyone hop straight in and work really hard on their strokes with no fuss at all. Everyone received a fearless fox and showed our school theme for this term ‘courage’. We were also thinking about how it feels to be proud in PSHE as our focus this term is ‘Goals and Dreams’. This week children shared their goals and dreams for the future and talked about how it feels to have dreams and goals. We then created clouds with our dreams on, these will later be displayed in our dreams garden.

In maths we learned and solved the perimeter of many different shapes in many different ways using; cm squared paper, pipe cleaners, rulers, string and meter sticks. Children designed their own islands, shopping malls, fortnite games (of course), zoos etc. before calculating the perimeter of each shop, station, pen etc. Their overall effort in maths this week has been outstanding and it would seem everyone has settled back into our new term and routine very quickly.

Our new topic for the whole of Spring term is Brazil and this appeals to many of the boys in particular because in Brazil they play a lot of… football – you guessed it! In PE with Miss Jackson this half of term we are doing dance/gymnastics and this has been planned to fit around Brazil and carnival dancing – Glyme class will be creating carnival masks in art and taking them to their final dance lesson so they can wear them for their peer performance. This week in our topic lesson we located Brazil using an atlas, learned about the flag and the population. The children had the chance to share what they would like to learn about Brazil over the next 12 weeks before researching using books, atlases and ipads the 4 major cities; Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo. These are also their new table names for this term.

A couple of children enjoyed using the new reflection area in our classroom this week and we all enjoyed exploring and using the new reflection trail outside too! Half of us also had our first forest school session this term. Here are a couple of pictures of us enjoying ourselves in the woods.

Have a lovely weekend.
