Using instruments to represent realms of the Viking universe

In our music lesson we learnt a song called Odin, Mighty World Creator, which explained how Odin created the different realms of Norse Mythology: Jotunheim, an icy home for the giants; Midgard where humans live; the underworld, Helheim; Asgard, the citadel of the gods and Bifrost, the rainbow connecting Asgard and Midgard.

We learnt about the musical term timbre, which describes the quality of a sound.  We then experimented with different musical instruments, considering their timbre and deciding which realm of the Viking universe they would best represent.  We also thought about how we could vary tempo and dynamics to help an instrument suit a certain realm.
