PGL – Raft Building

posted in: Year Six News | 0

Raft Building was one of the most popular PGL activities… and also the wettest!

We started by learning how to tie figure of eight knots (make Olaf the snowman, tuck his scarf around him then poke through his carrot nose!) which we used to tie two barrels together.  We then used two long logs to secure three pairs of barrels into a raft; we needed good teamwork to make this work because the ropes had to be really tight.  Once we had launched our raft (one called the Jolly Roger, christened by birthday boy Captain Joel!) we had challenges to complete, like paddling to the island and crew members switching places.  The challenges were pretty tricky… resulting in most of us slipping into the pond!
