We have been celebrating National Coding Week by talking about what coding is and why it is important. Mrs Barker told the class about the first time that she saw a computer (a BBC model B that her dad had borrowed from the school where he was a deputy head) and how they programmed the turtle to draw a square. We talked about all the places where coding is used so that computers and software can follow instructions. Then we looked at writing some simple code of our own, using the BeeBots, the BeeBot app, the Daisy the Dinosaur app and the Scratch Junior app. It was great fun and the children were already really good at starting to build more complex algorithms.
