As part of our work on about the Christian Easter Story, we focused on the symbol of the egg and why that is important in representing new life at Easter time. We looked at a variety of decorated eggs then used craft materials to decorate one of our own. Take a look at our creations:
As part of our work on Plants in Science, we focused on the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees. We took part in a range of activities all about trees, including using some trees in our school grounds to do some bark rubbings.
As part of our Food and Nutrition unit of work in D&T- Bring on Breakfast, we made fruit kebabs. We learnt how to prepare the fruit, how to use the bridge and claw grips to safely cut each piece of fruit and how to safely put the fruit pieces on to the kebab stick. We really enjoyed eating our fruit kebabs too!
A big thank you to Miss D who planned some wonderful pirate themed activities for Year 1 to do. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their Pirate Adventure!
Take a look at some photos of our work on exploring mass in Maths. We used non-standard units of measurement and used key words to discuss our observations including heavier, lighter, and equal.

Dear parents and carers,
Apologies for my illness at the end of the week- I'm now back in class and feeling much better.
Last week we were working on our balanced arguments, and the children will be finishing these off this week, before we move on to something different!
In maths we are continuing with fractions. Last week we did adding and subtracting, and this week we'll finishing subtracting and also try a bit of multiplication.
This week's spellings (tested this Friday) are:
In English this week we have just about finished sentence stacking our disaster stories based on a flood. Next week we will start to plan our own disaster stories.
This week in maths we have started a new topic of measurement. We began by looking at how we can use a ruler to measure accurately in centimetres and millimetres. Later in the week we learnt how to convert between metres and centimetres, and then centimetres and millimetres.
In Science this week we have started to think about our diets and which groups the food we eat fits into, this is part of our topic, Animals, Including Humans. Next week we will begin to think more about the nutrition that we get from food and the effect that it has on our bodies.
In our Health and Fitness PE lesson this week we focused on raising our heart rates in some fast paced games and fitness activities!
This week’s spellings have been set on Spelling Shed; we will have a short test next Tuesday.
Spelling Rule: Adding the suffix ‘–ly’ when the root word ends in ‘-le’ then the ‘-le’ is changed to ‘-ly.’
This week the children have worked really hard. In maths we have been putting our skills from the whole year into practice, as well as working on counting in fractions. Next week we will be doing some measuring.
In English we have done some reading comprehension and written our non-chronological reports about lions, with some amazing facts included. Next week we will be learning a rainforest based story to retell in our own words.
In PE we have done some ball skills and learning to skip in different ways in between rain showers.
Thank you to all the parents who have already attended parent meetings, we have sent home a parent questionnaire with your child today which we should be grateful if you would complete and return. We look forward to meeting with those parents we haven't yet seen next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs James and Mrs Lappin
As part of our work on our Food and Nutrition unit in D&T, we have been focusing on the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. We tasted a variety of fruit that could be eaten as part of a healthy breakfast. This included some fresh, tinned, dried and frozen fruits. After tasting each fruit, we described the fruit using sensory vocabulary.
