Welcome!
The PTA at Appleton Primary School is called the Friends of Appleton School. We are a registered charity (no. 1024450). The aim of the Friends is to fundraise for the school and to foster a community amongst parents/carers, and indeed those from the wider community who wish to support the school. The funds we raise are used to purchase resources that the school might not otherwise be able provide, within the government set budget. This could be anything from books, maths equipment and computers to school trip transport and outdoor play equipment.
The Friends Committee
We are a friendly bunch and meet on a regular basis to organise fun and exciting events that allow both the pupils and parents alike to fully enjoy raising money for the school.

Where does the money go?
Having spoken to teachers, school leadership, governors and parents, it’s clear there are some key priorities for what we fund and what we hope to fund.
Regular contributions
Key Projects
Having spoken to teachers, school leadership, governors and parents, it’s clear there are some key priorities for what we fund and what we hope to fund.
Regular contributions
- School Trip Transport Costs & Subsidies (e.g. PGL, Swimming, Pantomime coach travel etc.): around £1650 per year.
- Extra Classroom Resources (funds allocated to class teachers): £1000 per year.
Key Projects
- IT - this year, our focus is on upgrading the school’s IT equipment (see below).
- Outdoor Play – Adventure Trail on the back field and Foundation Play area.

IT Equipment Upgrade Project 2020
Our fundraising focus this year (aside from the regular contributions) is to raise the money needed to replace some of our ageing IT equipment and if possible, provide some additional equipment such as a class set of iPads. Here is an idea of what we’d like to provide the School:
Interactive Whiteboards
Some of our interactive whiteboards are becoming obsolete technology and really need replacing/upgrading. A new whiteboard costs around £1800. We plan to gradually replace all current whiteboards, starting with the classes in greatest need.
Positive benefits of Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) in classroom learning:
One Class Set of iPads
Fifteen iPads would allow for one device between two pupils, when using them as part of whole class learning. Touchscreen tablet devices in the classroom can provide opportunities for students to work and excel at their own level and pace. Our teachers can also use apps and games to make learning more personalised to fit an individual pupils’ progress. A new 10” iPad costs around £300 but we are also interested in refurbished devices – if you or anyone you know have any suggestions about sourcing these, please do get in touch.

Positive benefits of Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) in classroom learning:
- Children LOVE using technology! So what better way to get them engaged in their learning?
- It’s fun! Children love coming up to the boards and moving things around or writing on the boards
- Increases teacher-student engagement
- There are so many amazing resources made for interactive boards; how about being able to demonstrate graphs accurately on a scaled board, the children being able to come up and draw the points on themselves and adding lines of best fit; astounding Science resources that bring practicals to life that are simply not possible in a small classroom; phonics fun for the little ones to help their reading…it’s endless!
- Can be easily adapted to help learners of all abilities
- Interactive whiteboards bring subjects to life and give the teachers the advanced technology needed to better prepare our children in a technological world.
