Foundation Stage Weekly Update

Hi Everyone,

We have come to the end of another very busy week in Foundation. The children have worked very hard on our drama and story mapping work for ‘Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs’ by Ian Whybrow and even got the opportunity to show Mrs Carnell today who was very impressed.

Our phonics this week has focused on ‘j’ and ‘v’ and the children have learned songs to help them remember the 2 sounds. I have really started to see their phonics impacting their reading in recent weeks and this has been great.

Maths has gone back to number recognition to 20 and the children have enjoyed using a washing line to sequence the numbers and shiny gems to help them recognise different numbers.

PSHE focused on being kind and talking nicely to each other. Mrs Wahi and I modeled what it was like to be unkind and the children were very cross with me for being mean to Mrs Wahi and told me what I could do differently next time which was really impressive.

We have also started learning about Chinese New Year and the children came up with some other animals they thought would be good as part of the Zodiac. We will continue this work next week.

Finally 3 things you can ask your child this week:-

  • Can they remember our story map?

  • Can they find a number in your house and tell you what it is?

  • Can they remember one of the animals from the Zodiac?

Have a great weekend,

Kayleigh Ballard.
