Last Thursday Year 6 investigated a terrible crime that had happened right outside of our classroom: a suspected dog-napping had taken place! Stevie was very upset and we found out that we had four suspects: Stevie herself, Mrs Carnell, Mrs Barker and Mrs Smith. We collected clues and processed the evidence, which meant that we could reduce our list of suspects until we reached the final perpetrator- Mrs Smith! We tested finger prints, powder residue, blood and ink from the ransom note. We also thought about other evidence, such as sweetie wrappers and bandaged hands.
Luckily it turned out that the dog-napping was a set-up so that we could learn about forensic science. Phew!
We would like to say a big thank you to Lise Price for organising and running the whole day, and also PCSO Flood for attending and adding in his real life knowledge of this aspect of science. We really enjoyed it and learned a great deal about how crimes are investigated.
